Thanks to a partnership between the Recreation Foundation and Jennifer Vickey of the Wyoming branch of the Hamilton County Public Library, Wyoming’s Hike/Bike Trail now includes a story you can follow along with as you walk.
Inspired by Denise Fleming’s book Go Shapes, Go! the new StoryWalk® encourages participants to move their bodies and talk about what they discover about themselves as they do so. The 23-page StoryWalk® begins near Oak Park, winds through the trail and ends at the Wyoming Recreation Center. At the Rec Center families can stop for a cold drink and a free water bottle (one per family) as part of the experience. The installation will remain in place until Oct. 4.
The Recreation Foundation’s youth leadership program volunteers were instrumental in putting this installation in place and making sure it was accessible for children and families. The youth leader volunteers are Jeffrey Evans, Marley Manigault, and Grace Kerin. Wyoming Kindness Connection’s youth leadership initiative and community programs are generously supported by Wyoming Youth Services.
StoryWalk® was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and has developed with the help of Rachel Senechal of the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. Click here to learn more about the StoryWalk® movement
