Over 170 people celebrated our newest immigrant and refugee neighbors the night of Saturday, February 9th at the Centennial Barn. The Junior Woman’s Club of Wyoming and Heartfelt Tidbits hosted an International Block Party to help raise funds for Heartfelt Tidbits, a local organization that serves these communities as they settle locally, with everything from learning English and job skills to offering volunteer opportunities so they too can give back to our community. Guests got to experience a wide variety of homemade international food including Filipino Chicken Skewers, Kerala ko Achar (Bitter Melon Salad), Goat Meat Curry and Rasgulla (Sweet Milk Balls).
The evening also included henna tattoos and photo opportunities for wearing traditional dress from some of the immigrants’ and refugees’ heritage. Gifts made by artists who participate in the Welcome project—Heartfelt Tidbits’ and Wave Pool’s social enterprise and makerspace—were available for purchase. Music by No Guarantees kept guests moving on the dance floor all night long. The event was a wild success, raising nearly $12,000 for Heartfelt Tidbits, which will go to ongoing needs, including everything from utility bills to citizenship tests.
