You might be surprised to know Wyoming houses two steel companies, all in the offices up above Gabby’s. Competition between the two businesses isn’t tense—their work pertains to completely different types of steel, and the owners of the two businesses also happen to be married.

Diversified Steel Trading, Inc., is owned by Jane Robbins and supplies mainly prime domestic coils to fabricators in the HVAC industry, such as customers who fabricate duct. She recently sold steel coils to a customer who made the duct work for Music Hall. As a certified woman-owned business, Diversified Steel Trading has advantages on contracts for projects like hospitals and schools that require diverse vendors.

Jane started the business out of the Robbins’ family home on Burns in Wyoming shortly after their first child was born in 2009, then moved it to 515 Wyoming in 2013. “Not only do we love working here, we also live here, and raise our two boys here. I love the downtown area,” Jane says. “I take advantage of Gabby’s for work lunches, the bakery supplies yummy treats for me to take to my customers, and we also love walking our dog down here when we bring him to work because of all of the green space nearby.”

Her husband Justin runs JM Burns Steel Supply, Inc.—also housed above Gabby’s—and in his work calls on stamping and roll forming manufacturers. JM Burns Steel Supply has been in business about 10 years, and Justin has been in the industry about 15 years. In his off time, Justin is a Star Soccer coach and supports causes including Boy Scouts, Habitat for Humanity, and Helping Hands.

Jane too is a big believer in giving back. “I try to help out wherever I can, and do my part to help our community thrive,” says Jane. Diversified Steel Trading donates to the schools, to the Muddy Pig, and Jane is cognizant about supporting other Wyoming businesses like Gabby’s, Brand Shepherd, Stir the Pot and Wendy Magee Photography. She says those other businesses have helped her business grow. She appreciates how those business owners have helped shape her family life too, with Stir the Pot “teaching my boys life lessons” and Wendy Magee Photography “making memories through beautiful photos.”
