You rake them, sweep them, or leaf-blow them. You get the yard clear…and then you turn around and it’s full of leaves again. Ahh, autumn!
Luckily, from now through December 12, city crews will be around to take those leaves off your hands with no need for bagging or burning. All you have to do is get your leaves down to the roadside and trucks will come by to vacuum them up and haul them away to be turned into mulch. Simple, right? Well, there are a few caveats.
First, don’t rake the leaves into the street. They can block traffic and clog storm drains that way. Just pile them up at the curb, no more than 10 feet into your yard so the vacuum can reach them. Try not to pile leaves around or behind parked cars as well.
Second, the vacuum cannot handle limbs, rocks, or other yard waste. In fact, such things can be dangerous to the crews and equipment, so leaves only, please.
Finally, the leaf-collection crews have a set route that should take them past your house about once per week, although that may vary with the amount of leaves that have fallen. It’s impossible to predict exactly when the crew will come by, but as soon as they finish a route they start it again, so please be patient.
