Wyoming celebrated Independence Day in grand fashion once again, with the annual parade along Wyoming Avenue, fireworks in Oak Park and lots of muddy fun at the annual City of Wyoming Muddy Pig fun run in North Park.
More than 820 participants, the largest crowd ever, sloshed their way through obstacles large and small at the Muddy Pig. New this year, participants had to navigate “Charlotte’s Web,” a web-like tangle of ropes, plus a pipe slide. More than 300 people lined up to cheer on the “runners” as they wound their way through the course. Be sure to check out our drone footage of this fun-to-watch event.
This year’s theme for the parade was “Music in America.”
Record crowds lined Wyoming Avenue for the event on a beautiful summer day to cheer marchers representing scout troops, community organizations, EMS crews, and neighborhood floats.
The first place neighborhood trophy for float building went to the “Corner Crew” of Pendery, the Pike, Stout and Barney.
The national anthem was performed by Ron Callahan, accompanied by the Civic Winds. In addition to fireworks, crowds at Oak Park were entertained by local band, Second Wind. During the day, residents were invited to swim at no charge at the Wyoming Family Aquatic Center. There were also inflatables at Oak Park, plus Pop a Dog, Kettle Korn and ice cream.
